Spring Capping at Hurufa Qalaxee, Ethiopia
The implanting agency is Tarkanfi Sustainable Development (an Ethiopia-based nonprofit).
The total Project Budget was $17,500 for (3) Outcomes.
Outcome 1
To improve community access to safe water sources and to increase the supply of potable water.
Activities

Construction of the reservoir and capping of the spring. This is composed of a collection camber and water point, Hurfa Qalaxeeis.

Spring had to be cleaned.

Fencing was completed around the new spring structure.

Water management training was conducted.

Backyard vegetable gardening training was conducted.

10 members of WASH committee were trained on water management, sanitation, and hygiene practice for two days.

The resource person for the training was from the District Health office.
Outcome 2
Improve the HH children with nutrition food intake and create awareness on seasonal nutrition.
15 community members were trained, specifically women, on nutrition/vegetable awareness.
They were trained for two days on nutrition and WASH by district health professionals.
They learned to prepare the land for vegetable gardening and have planted:

Kale

Tomato

Carrot
This is their first experience to plant vegetables in the community.

The project was completed according to the plan.
Outcome 3
To improve the program management.
Warada women’s affairs, social workers, agriculture, and TSD staff will follow-up on the project’s sustainability.
The final outcome to improve program management includes these initiatives:
During Construction

Weekly 1–2-page updates on progress of work that contain pictures/videos from the site.

Bimonthly (2x per month) call to discuss project and area selection.

Include copy of work plan, performance bond, and updated construction report.
After Completion of Construction

Proof-of-function photos are to be sent to Aqwalife once-per-year following with at least 10 pictures and 5 videos.

Detailed plan for operation and maintenance project coordinators.

1-3 pages of updates of number of individuals served, along with information on the health impact to children, families, and women.

1-2 pages with number of individuals directly employed from the project, along with any impacts on overall household income.
